TAPANAPPA CABERNET SHIRAZ WRATTONBULLY 75CL 13.5%
The colour is deep and purple edged, the aroma is an amalgam of black currant Cabernet, spicy anise Shiraz and the earthy, smokey terroir character of the Whalebone Vineyard. The core of the wine is sweet but the finish is of gentle savoury tannin. This wine is a pure expression of the unique Whalebone Vineyard terroir. 96 points, Abundant berry and violet aromas with a little toastiness from oak; a rich, concentrated palate with soft, gentle tannins and satisfying persistence. Good ripeness and the Cabernet and Shiraz components are seamlessly interwoven. A superlative take on Australias classic red blend.
The delicious Oz Red is made in the style of a 'Right Bank Bordeaux Blend' and is made from old vine grapes from Tapanappa's Whalebone Vineyard in Wrattonbully, South Australia.
The vineyard was completely renovated in 2002 and since then the old Cabernet and Merlot vines have "responded magnificently" and although yields are very low the vines can produce fully ripened grapes with natural rainfall.
Hand-selected bunches were fermented in barrel and the wine was then matured for a further 15 months.
The result is a deep and vibrant wine with ripe and intense aromas. Dark, black, soft fruits from the Merlot meet the floral and leafy notes of the Cabernet Franc producing a refined wine with elegant tannins
