FONSECA GUIMARAENS VINTAGE PORT 2012 75CL 20%

In undeclared vintages Fonseca bottle Guimaraens, provided the quality of the fruit is sufficient. This 2012 Vintage, bottled in 2014 shows deep purple black with violet highlights; the first impression on the nose is of a powerful detonation of blackberry, cassis, strawberry and woodland fruit.

These exuberant berry aromas are seasoned with notes of coffee, treacle and spice and surrounded by a fragrant balsamic aura of gumcistus and mint. The intense fruit flows through the palate like a thick blackcurrant coulis. The palate is supported by a taut fabric of closely woven tannins and the long finish resounds with a final blast of sumptuous ripe berry flavour.

Tasting notes; Deep ruby black centre with narrow purple rim. Impressive depth and intensity of fruit on the nose. Very fine complex woodland berry aromas intertwined with
discreet resiny, balsamic scents of garrigue, rock rose and wild herbs. On the palate the dark fruit flavours have a surprising freshness and a tight mesh of thick, grippy tannins provides both structure and volume. A wonderfully long finish leaving succulent flavours of raspberry and cassis. Very fine and beautifully balanced, the 2012 Guimaraens combines the depth and richness of Quinta do Panascal with the clearly delineated fruit and heady scented quality of the Pinhao Valley.
