Hochar Pre et Fils is the baby brother to Chateau Musar red, and is Hochar Pre et Fils Red has been described as the second wine of Chateau Musar, and it does bear some resemblance to the Grand Vin. Made with fruit from a single vineyard of 30 year old vines, it is similar in style to the top wine but ready to drink earlier. Rich and spicy with flavours of baked plums, leather and earth; tangy and well-balanced. Hochar Pre et Fils is sometimes described as the second wine of Musar, being similar but earlier maturing. From a single Bekaa Valley vineyard of 30 year old Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan, Cinsault and Grenache vines. When young, the wines are robust and aromatic, with baked plum, warm earth, leather, thyme and dark chocolate characters. With age they become tawnier and spicier. The 2017 Hochar Pere et Fils is a single vineyard red made from old vine Cinsault, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon grown at 1,000 metres above sea level. The result is a wine of power, concentration, richness and freshness, full of plums, damsons, herbs and spices. This is getting close in quality to the flagship wine of the estate, but at half the price - stunning value Five years in the making, this is ready to drink on release, but can be cellared up to 10 years from harvest. An ideal choice for casseroles, roasted meats or a tuna steak.
