Affectionally known at the 'Vin de Liqueur' or 'Mistelle' of the Cognac region, Pineau des Charentes is produced from blending one-quarter Eau de Vie of Cognac to three quarters freshly squeezed grape juice, creating a winning combination of fresh fruit and brandy warmth with a gentle spirit kick.
This Pineau from Pradiere has glowing golden hints and a delicate nose of dry grape with vanilla notes. It has a rich texture in the mouth with a long, elegant and persistently fruity finish. The Charente & Charente-Maritime wine regions are home to the aperitif of Pineau des Charentes a fortified wine made by blending Cognac Eau de Vie with grape must.
Most Pineau are white, but there are also rose and red varieties available. Delicious as both a winter warmer and summer cooler, the combination of fresh fruit flavours, rich oak flavours, and warming cognac make it a year-round treat.
How to serve Pineau des Charantes? Pineau des Charentes is best served chilled, ideally between 8-10°C (46-50°F). This temperature helps maintain the wine's refreshing acidity and prevents the sweetness from becoming overwhelming. A tulip-shaped glass, like a sherry glass, is recommended as it enhances the aroma.
Enjoy as an Aperitif or to accompany your Christmas Pudding, and its especially good alongside our Cheeses!
