BUY RJ`S LICORICE AT THE CHEESE AND WINE SHOP
So how did RJ’s come about? Roger Halliwell was approached by the receivers of Granny’s Licorice Ltd in 1983 to help identify whether the company had a future. Roger thought that it did and as he got caught up in the excitement of making confectionery, he decided he would buy the assets of the company and set up business in Levin, New Zealand.
During the 5 years that followed, there was little change in the traditional licorice market. Roger went back to the drawing board and in 1994 he repurchased the former land and buildings of Granny’s Licorice and set about enticing his son Regan James, who was on his big OE, to return to New Zealand to embark on a mission, to take the traditional licorice market and turn it into a category highlighted by innovative products. This is the point where the RJ’s brand was born.
RJ’s is named after Regan James and from the outset, RJ’s was to be a family business – with 5 family members currently working in the company and with RJ’s maintaining a very clear culture of family values in the day to day running of the business, this has certainly been successfully achieved.
Since its outset, RJs Licorice is New Zealand's leading licorice provider and you can buy New Zealands best Licorice at The Cheese and Wine Shop for next day delivery.
