History of Bendicks Chocolates ...
Bendicks, initially established as both a chocolate and pastry confectioner, was formed by Mr Benson and Colonel Dickson in 1930. They were originally based in Kensington but opened several further shops, including one in Mayfair to meet the ever-increasing demand for their chocolates.

Bendicks created its famous Bittermint in 1931. The recipe was invented by the sister-in-law of Mr Benson and has remained a secret ever since. A high percentage peppermint oil and dark chocolate with 95% cocoa solids are combined to create a totally unique mint chocolate.

The War Years were difficult for Bendicks. Colonel Dickson rejoined the army and rationing of raw materials restricted supply. Nevertheless there were advantages. Many officers from all over Britain and later North America passed through London and experienced Bendicks chocolates.

It was the start of the company's national and international reputation as manufacturers of high quality chocolates.
For many years Bendicks had become a firm favourite of the Royal Family and household. In 1962, in recognition of its Royal usage, Bendicks (Mayfair) Ltd was granted the Royal Warrant.
To cope with increasing demand production was moved to its current site on the outskirts of Winchester.

Bendicks Mint Collection was first launched in 1986 and has since remained the UK's best-selling Boxed Mint Chocolate assortment.

In 1988 Bendicks was acquired by its current owners, August Storck KG, a highly successful German-based confectionery manufacturer.
